Clearing a Waist-High Lalang Lot in Kota Damansara — Before & After

How our crew cleared a badly overgrown empty lot near Villa Damansara in a single visit, hauling away the lalang and leaving it tidy.

Before-and-after of a vacant Kota Damansara lot cleared of waist-high lalang

In April 2026 we were called out to a vacant residential lot near Villa Damansara — the same neighbourhood our base sits in. The lot had been left alone for about eight months, and the lalang on it had reached waist height. The neighbour next door had been losing snakes into his compound twice a week.

This kind of job is in our weekly rhythm during the year-end monsoon stretch, but the size and the height of this one made it a good example to write up. It’s the heavier end of the grass cutting in Petaling Jaya work our crew handles week in, week out.

Site Assessment

The first step on any badly overgrown lot is an on-site walk-through. Pricing this from a photo would have been guesswork — the photo couldn’t show how thick the lalang root mat was at ground level, or whether there was rubbish or debris hidden in the overgrowth that the brush cutters would catch on.

We walked the perimeter, confirmed the lot was about 2,400 square feet, identified the lalang as the dominant species (with patches of broadleaf weed mixed in), and noted two areas with old construction debris that would need to be flagged or moved before cutting. The quote went out the same evening.

The Clearing Visit

We brought two heavy-duty brush cutters and a trailer for debris removal. The job took about three hours: one cutter worked the perimeter inward, the other took the centre. We cleared from one edge to keep the snake-displacement controlled — heavy-duty clearing flushes wildlife, so the technique matters as much as the equipment.

Why we don’t use ride-on mowers for jobs like this

Ride-on mowers struggle with waist-high lalang on rough ground with hidden debris. A heavy-duty brush cutter handles thick growth on uneven terrain without getting stuck or damaging the blade.

After cutting, we raked, bagged, and loaded the cuttings into the trailer for disposal. The two construction debris piles were stacked at the lot boundary so the owner could arrange separate removal.

What the Owner Booked Next

After seeing the before/after, the owner asked about keeping it under control. We set up a 3-monthly periodic clearing schedule — enough to stop the lalang from re-establishing the root mat without paying for monthly full-cuts on land that doesn’t need it. For owners and developers managing multiple vacant lots across PJ, this rhythm tends to be the sweet spot.
